Both designs – rooted in a downtown Toronto theme – are the first to feature Carlsberg as the front-of-shirt sponsor.
TORONTO – (March 21, 2023) – York United FC has unveiled its Primary and Alternate kits for the upcoming 2023 season: the club’s first campaign with iconic brand Carlsberg as the front-of-shirt sponsor.
Both are rooted in a downtown Toronto theme, with the Primary inspired by the concept of performance: the sleeve pattern echoing the glass and class of one specific iconic city venue: Roy Thomson Hall. Anchored by the club’s traditional blue and green – this time in a sharp vertical motif – the textured underlay suggests a vast auditorium or stadium, where the masses come to watch a compelling and dramatic show.
The Primary shirt is accompanied by a spectacular video, showcasing the spellbinding dance talents of Naomi Henry and also featuring York United players Mo Babouli, Osaze De Rosario and Paris Gee. Filming took place specifically at Underpass Park, a public downtown space dedicated to illuminating and amplifying the talents of a litany of visual artists.
The Alternate kit is a retro throwback, complete with old-school collar, that evokes football’s glorious and notorious 1990s era. Again boasting the club’s signature colours, this time with the blue carried in an eye-catching contrasting sleeve, the underlay design – with its various sharp angles – pays homage to one of Toronto’s most well-known and standout architectural pieces: The Michael Lee-Chin ‘Crystal’, Daniel Libeskind’s stunning Royal Ontario Museum masterpiece.
A launch video for the Alternate shirt was filmed at The George Street Diner in downtown Toronto, a well-known vibrant and high-energy greasy spoon that has featured in a litany of films and music videos. With its abundance of character and personality, it was the perfect location for a fun and energetic shoot, and York United players Elijah Adekugbe, Kevin Dos Santos and Austin Ricci played their parts to perfection.
