Walmart worker who ‘burned to death’ inside bakery’s walk-in oven was found by her mom, family says
HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (Gray News) – The 19-year-old Walmart employee who was found dead inside the bakery department’s walk-in oven at a store in Canada has been identified.
The family has identified the worker as Gursimran Kaur on a GoFundMe page, writing that she “was found burned to death in the walk-in oven.”
According to Halifax Regional Police, officers responded to the Walmart store in Halifax, Nova Scotia for a “sudden death” on Oct. 19.
Police said the worker was found dead inside a large walk-in oven in the store’s bakery department.
Kaur’s family said on the GoFundMe page that both she and her mother worked at Walmart for the past two years.
The family said Kaur’s mother tried to find her daughter after not seeing her for an hour, and she wasn’t answering her phone, which was “unusual.” The family said the mother eventually found her daughter inside the oven.
“Imagine the horror that her mother experienced when she opened the oven, when someone pointed it out to her!” the GoFundMe page reads.
Police said a “complex” investigation is underway and did not confirm a cause and manner of death.
“The investigation is complex and involves several partner agencies. An investigation of this nature may take a significant amount of time,” police wrote in a statement.
The family also said they cannot share further details because of the ongoing investigation.
Kaur is originally from India and her family said she was a “young beautiful girl who came to Canada with big dreams.”
The GoFundMe page is no longer accepting donations because it reached its fundraising goal.
Our deepest condolences.
To the family.
