Selena Gomez has reportedly lost over 700,000 Instagram followers after posting a video responding to Donald Trump’s new executive orders.
President Trump has certainly divided opinion with some amendments he’s made to the way the US is run since taking office nearly two weeks ago.
The 47th president has already made changes to immigration laws, while also renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, just to name a few.
Singer Selena Gomez appeared to be upset by the new executive orders, as she shared a video of herself crying online last month.
Trump signed an executive order that is suspected to impact and deport millions, and Gomez said she was fearful for these people.
Appearing emotional, the 32-year-old said: “I’m so sorry. All my people are getting attacked. The children, I don’t understand. I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.”
The actor deleted the video not long after, adding in a follow-up message: “Apparently it’s not okay to show empathy for people.”
CritiqueJeu looked into Gomez’s social media accounts recently and found the star had reportedly lost over 700,000 Instagram followers in the last 30 days.
As per the Daily Mail, Paul Lenglet, co-founder and editor of CritiqueJeu, said: “Selena Gomez had a great end to 2024, but the start of 2025 has not been so gentle on her.
“The star has been facing many criticisms over her participation and performance on Emilia Pérez, a film directed and filmed in Paris, but with a story that takes place in Mexico.”

After analyzing the data on all of Gomez’s social media accounts, CritiqueJeu claimed she had a loss of 808,500 followers in the last 30 days.
Former US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director Tom Homan was appointed the ‘border czar’ for the Trump administration and has been tasked with leading the cut down on immigration in the US.
Homan explained how the military has been deployed to help out at the Mexican border, and how Trump is ‘sending a strong signal to the world, our borders closed’.
“If you’re in the country illegally, you’re on the table, because it’s not OK to, you know, violate the laws of this country,” he said.
“You got to remember, every time you enter this country illegally, you violated a crime under Title Eight, the United States Code 1325, it’s a crime.”

Trump’s new deportation and immigration policies explained
The 78-year-old stated he will embark on the ‘largest deportation programme in history’, claiming he will deport ‘maybe as many as 20 million’ people.
“We will begin the process of returning millions and millions of criminal aliens back to the places from which they came,” he said.
Who is being targeted for deportation?
The president said migrants accused of crimes will be the first targets of the policy, but that all migrants illegally on US soil could also be subject to deportation.
Collateral arrests
The policy also means that undocumented migrants who haven’t been accused of any crime but were found near to people who have could also be arrested in a move known as ‘collateral arrests’.
Trump’s administration said deportations would begin ‘very quickly’, although it’s likely he will need the help of Congress to provide extra funding to actually carry it all out.
What powers do law enforcement now have?
Trump has ordered the likes of the FBI, DEA, ATF, US Marshals and the Bureau of Prisons to trawl through their databases for information on undocumented migrants such as possible locations.
The president has also told federal officials to investigate any local authorities that get in the way of his new policies clamping down on immigration.
On top of that, the administration announced it was revoking a policy which prevented arrests at protected locations such as schools and churches.
Trump’s other immigration policies
Refugee travel ban
Prior to his inauguration, Trump vowed to expand his most controversial immigration policies – including the ban on travel for refugees and travellers, particularly those coming from Muslim countries.
“We will seal our border and bring back the travel ban,” he previously said. “Remember the famous travel ban? We didn’t take people from certain areas of the world. We’re not taking them from infested countries.”
Ending birthright citizenship
In another executive order, the POTUS also announced his intentions to end birthright citizenship for the children of undocumented immigrants.
However, a District Court Judge in Seattle described the potential alteration to birthright citizenship as ‘blatantly unconstitutional’, preventing it from going into full force without facing immediate legal challenges.
Halting ‘all illegal entry’ into US
During his inauguration address, the Republican announced his plans to ‘halt’ all ‘illegal entry’ into the States.
Another executive order suspended the entry of undocumented migrants to the US under any circumstances claiming that those who do make it to US soil ‘are restricted from invoking’ provisions like asylum.
‘Remain in Mexico’ programme reinstated
Another executive order has restarted the ‘Remain in Mexico’ programme, which requires non-Mexican asylum seekers to await their US hearing dates inside Mexican territory.
The Mexican government is preparing for thousands of deportees it expects to arrive from the US in the coming weeks.

Selena Gomez became overcome with emotion about Donald Trump’s new executive orders in a now-deleted video shared to social media.
Gomez, who is of Mexican-American heritage, posted a tearful video on Instagram in the wake of President Trump clamping down on immigration in the country.
The 78-year-old has declared a national emergency and ordered thousands of troops to head to the US-Mexico border.
He’s also halted all refugee and asylum seekers admissions, and tried to stop people born in the States having a birthright to US citizenship.
Trump has also ordered for illegal immigrants be deported — something Gomez, whose grandparents were Mexican immigrants, became tearful about.
She said in the now-deleted clip: “I’m so sorry. All my people are getting attacked. The children, I don’t understand. I wish I could do something.”
Sharing screenshots of a Los Angeles Times article about Gomez’s emotional video, Senate candidate Sam Parker weighed in.
“Selena Gomez picked illegals over America b/c she’s the 3rd gen descendent of Mexican illegals who received citizenship in the ’87 Amnesty,” he wrote on Twitter.
“She has an entitlement attitude toward America, like her illegal g’parents. Maybe Selena should be deported, too?”
Now Gomez has responded to this threats.
“Oh Mr. Parker Mr. Parker. Thanks for the laugh and the threat,” the singer posted to her Instagram Story.
Parker also seemed to find the ordeal amusing and posted a screenshot of her message to Twitter. He wrote alongside it: “Selena Gomez has responded to me. Lol.”
Speaking on the Trump’s deportation plans, border czar Tom Homan warned people who are in the US illegally that they’re ‘on the table’.
Homan used to work for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and his role of czar involves him advising the government on immigration and to coordinate policy in this particular area.
In Trump’s own words, Homan is ‘in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin’.

Speaking to ABC News, Homan said of the Trump administration’s plans: “If you’re in the country illegally, you’re on the table, because it’s not OK to, you know, violate the laws of this country.
“You got to remember, every time you enter this country illegally, you violated a crime under Title Eight, the United States Code 1325, it’s a crime.”
Homan went on: “So, if you’re in a country illegally, you got a problem. And that’s why I’m hoping those who are in the country illegally, who have not been ordered removed by the federal judge, should leave

Selena Gomez has opened up about what it’s like to have hit billionaire status.
The 32-year-old has come a long way since The Wizards of Waverly Place which first aired 17 years ago – feel old yet?
The Bloomberg Billionaires Index ranked Gomez for the first time and what a first time to be ranked, the star added to its billionaire index after being reported by the outlet as being worth a staggering $1.3 billion
Not only has Gomez amassed such wealth through her acting career – most recently starring in Only Murders in the Building – but also through her music, mass Instagram following – becoming the most followed woman in the world on the platform last year – alongside her business Rare Beauty.
Gomez founded her beauty business in 2020 and her stake is reportedly worth over one billion, subsequently making up the bulk of her billion – reportedly 81 percent to be precise. Oh, and it makes her one of the ‘youngest self-made’ billionaires on Bloomberg’s list.
Founder and executive officer of LA-based agency Hollywood Branded, Stacy Jones, told the outlet Gomez is ultimately ‘not just a pop star’, but a ‘multifaceted businesswoman with diverse income streams contributing to her impressive next worth’.
Investor in Gomez’s ‘mental fitness ecosystem’ Wondermind Brent Saunders added: “You’ve got a real role model of how a celebrity can use their influence and expertise to both do good and create good business. Selena epitomizes that.”

Really channeling Princess Diaries’ Queen Clarisse in how she navigates the media, Gomez responded to Entertainment Tonight Online’s question about billionaire status first with a ‘Oh Goodness’ before reflecting: “I’m very grateful. I personally think it’s distasteful to talk about money, but I really am giving all the credit to people who buy the products.
“They’re the ones that made this dream of mine come true, so I’m really, really honored and just happy.”
Gomez echoed a similar sentiment when talking to Time about Rare Beauty as a brand.
She said: “I have this weird thing in my head where if I focus on the numbers, I’ll lose whatever it is that made Rare Beauty Rare Beauty.
“I never wanted it to be about making a lot of money and that’s it.”
One Twitter user wrote: “shes truly a inspiration. came from nothing and worked HARD.”
And as another resolved: “What an iconic woman.”

Selena Gomez has opened up about some of her fans saying the ‘most hurtful things’ about her life and relationship with Benny Blanco

Selena Gomez has opened up about her own fans’ ‘hurtful’ comments about her boyfriend Benny Blanco.
Since Gomez started dating music producer Blanco in June 2023, their relationship has unfortunately faced certain scrutiny and online comments, some of which have actually come from the ‘Love On’ singer’s own fanbase.
Gomez confirmed the pair’s relationship back in December 2023 and from the get-go, various social media users and some of the star’s own fans didn’t hold back their thoughts.
One user called Blanco ‘unhandsome’ and Gomez responded to others who shared similar comments, defending her beau as being ‘better than anyone’.
She added: “I don’t understand. If you actually care about me. This is my happiest. If you don’t feel free to say whatever you want. But I will never allow your words to guide my life. Ever. I’m done.”
Alas, the trolling of Blanco has continued and, earlier this year, users took to a video of Gomez and her boyfriend attending the Emmys to share similarly nasty criticism relating to Blanco’s looks, alongside eluding to the idea Gomez can do better. The singer has since responded.

In an interview with TIME, Gomez reflected on both her and Blanco’s approaches when asked about their relationship publicly.
While Blanco has been very open about his plans for a future with the singer, Gomez has often chosen to be more refrained when asked about their romance.
Why? Well, Gomez explained she ‘know[s] what people can do to people [she] love[s]’.
She continued: “My own fans, who I adore and feel like have shaped who I am, will say the most hurtful things to me about how I live my life.”

However, the singer revealed Blanco ‘has the strength in him that none of that noise fazes him’.
“It’s really impressive, and I just cherish every moment with him,” she added. “I don’t know what the future holds, but I do know that he’s not going anywhere any time soon.”
And thankfully, some fans’ nastiness is counterbalanced by a plethora of true support for Gomez and her relationship.
A month ago, Gomez shared a series of photographs of her and Blanco celebrating his debut cookbook Open Wide: Cooking with Friends.
One Instagram user commented: “I love seeing you happy.”
“You two are absolutely gorgeous together,” another added.
And a third wrote: “My favorite couple. I love you both with all my heart.”

Billie Eilish opened up about the impact of losing 100,000 Instagram followers after posting one particular image.
When Billie Eilish first came on the music scene, the ‘Ocean Eyes’ singer’s fashion consisted of baggy pants and tops.
Like all of our fashion senses have chopped and changed – or at least I hope so for my sake given I used to wear fishnet gloves, fluorescent leg warmers and a cap when younger – Eilish’s style has evolved, however, not all of her fans have liked the switch ups.
The pic which caused such a stir online resulted from a photoshoot Eilish did with British Vogue in June 2021.

Ahead of debuting the new look on the front cover of the magazine, she told the outlet: “I’ve literally never done anything in this realm at all. Y’know, besides when I’m alone and s**t.”
The cover saw the musician with bright blonde hair, dressed in a corset and tight-fitting skit alongside gloves.
While many fans flooded to the post in support of the style shake-up, branding Eilish as ‘amazing,’ others weren’t as happy, with the singer later revealing she actually lost a whopping 100,000 followers on Instagram after sharing the post.

In an interview with Elle USA later that year she said: “I lost 100,000 followers just because of the boobs.”
And not only did Eilish lose 100,000 followers, but IGV Official reports the singer lost that amount of followers within just one hour of sharing the image, with her count allegedly going from 73 million to 72.9 million.
Followers shmollowers and that hasn’t stopped Eilish from now going on to have over 100 million followers on the platform – not that followers should really mean much anyway.
However, Eilish later revealed the true impact of fans wanting her to simply stay the same as when she first broke out on the music scene and that was how it affected her mental health.
She said: “People hold on to these memories and have an attachment. But it’s very dehumanizing.”
And in a later interview in 2023, Eilish continued to address some people’s issues or fixation on her appearance.
