Toronto FC drew a goalless draw at TQL Stadium against Cincinnati, in the game for week 1 of the United States – MLS 2024 tournament.
Sean Johnson was the figure of the game.
The Toronto FC goalkeeper was instrumental in saving 6 shots.
Another relevant player in the game was Kipp Keller. The FC Cincinnati defender was important for throwing 3 balls out of the danger area.
With a dirty game, the match played between both teams stood out. There were several reprimands: Jonathan Osorio, Raoul Petretta, Shane O’Neill, Yuya Kubo and Sean Johnson.
Cincinnati head coach Pat Noonan proposed a 3-5-2 strategy with Roman Celentano in goal; Miles Robinson, Kipp Keller and Ian Murphy on the defensive line; Obinna Nwobodo, Yuya Kubo, Luciano Acosta, Pavel Bucha and Luca Orellano in the middle; and Corey Baird and Sergio Santos in attack.
For their part, those led by John Herdman stood with a 3-6-1 formation with Sean Johnson between the three sticks; Kevin Long, Shane O’Neill and Raoul Petretta on defense; Federico Bernardeschi, Alonso Coello, Deybi Flores, Jonathan Osorio, Richie Laryea and Lorenzo Insigne in the midfield; and Prince Osei Owusu up front.
The referee selected for the match at TQL Stadium was Jonathan Weiner.
Cincinnati will visit Chicago Fire on the next day. On the Toronto FC side, they will play as a visitor against New England.
