Beefing up: Ticats re-sign offensive linemen Brandon Kemp, Jakub Szott

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have re-signed offensive linemen Brandon Kemp and Jakub Szott.

Kemp made 10 starts for the Ticats in 2023, becoming a valuable contributor at right tackle. The six-foot-seven, 310-pound bookend also started in his only appearance for the team in 2022.

The 26-year-old American played five collegiate seasons at Valdosta State, appearing in 43 games and helping the team to an undefeated NCAA Division II national championship in 2018. He went unselected in the 2020 NFL Draft before spending parts of three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans.

Szott dressed in seven games for Hamilton last season, making one start. Originally selected by Ottawa in the fourth round of the 2020 CFL Draft, the 25-year-old Canadian has played in 34 games and made 14 starts over three seasons with the Redblacks, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Montreal Alouettes, Saskatchewan Roughriders, and Ticats.

The six-foot-four, 299-pound blocker played four seasons for the McMaster Marauders, suiting up in 37 games and earning second-team OUA all-star status in 2019.

The Ticats will begin the 2024 regular season on Friday, June 7 when they visit the Calgary Stampeders at 9:00 p.m. ET.
